So…in case you were thinking it’s just you, the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) released a report today that ranks the cost of living in Brooklyn as the 2nd highest city in the country. Outdone only by Manhattan, of course and closely followed by San Francisco (see gas prices there above – ouch!) and Honolulu (?).

In covering the report, the WSJ asks an interesting question: “Would you rather get paid more and live in an expensive city, or take a pay cut for a cheaper locale?” It’s one I’m still trying to answer, me-self.

Cookeville, TN anyone?

HI is expensive b/c almost everything has to be shipped in. And rent is way high, too. As far as the WSJ article, it just leaves me with two words. “Well, duh.” :)

Yeah, basically. From the Blatantly Obvious Department…

I’d rather make more $ and live in an expensive city.
But it’s irrelevant to us because our business currently relies on an urban population.
If I had a salaried job I might go the other way.

I do feel like you have to make a certain amount of money to be able to eat and drink like we do – buying local and organic and going out to eat more than occasionally – and travel like we want to (some day). I guess if you live somewhere cheap and make a decent amount (in other words, not a lot but enough) that would be ideal. ???
